The Controller’s Office recently became aware that effective January 1, 2025, the earned income tax (EIT) rate to “non-resident” commuters is 1%. This non-resident EIT is levied on those who commute to work in Easton City. If the tax rates for the resident and workplace jurisdictions differ, employers must withhold at the higher of the two rates.
Because of this change, the Payroll Department will be updating the EIT withholding rates for those employees that are non-resident commuters. We will also be refunding any amounts over withheld as of January 1st, 2025. The refunds will be made in your next applicable payroll.
We encourage employees to doublecheck their current EIT withholding rate and alert the Payroll Department of any changes that may need to be made. You can check your current EIT withholding rate using the link below located on Keystone Collections website. Enter your home and work address, click “View Information” and check the EIT withholding percentage under the “Total Taxes to be Withheld” section.
