CHANGES FROM THE USPS

Effective May 21, 2012, the U.S. Postal Service will not be able to accept outbound international mail pieces bearing handwritten or typewritten customs declarations except at retail service counters at a Post Office (i.e., in downtown Easton). This restriction also applies to mail destined to APO, FPO and DPO locations.

If your international mail has a hand-written customs declarations, it cannot be accepted at the Lafayette College Campus Post Office; it must brought to the downtown Easton branch of the Post Office. If you wish to send your mail from the campus Post Office located in the Farinon Center, you must complete your customs form online, print it out, and bring it with you to Farinon. The link to do the form is: https://webapps.usps.com/customsforms/welcome.jsp. After printing out the required customs forms, the shipment can be brought to the Campus Post Office for postage and mailing.

NEW ONLINE TOOLS FOR FACULTY AND STAFF

Over the next few weeks, several new online tools for faculty and staff will become available through Banner Self-Service. Within the Banner Finance section, you will be able to:

Submit your departmental budget (starting in May with the FY12-13 budget)
Submit and approve Purchase Requisitions (starting in or before July, 2012)
Submit and approve requests to transfer budget allocations from one Org to another

Not only will utilization of these online tools be more environmentally-friendly, it will hopefully facilitate the process and allow users to better track where their requests are at any stage in the process.

STUDENT ACCOUNT STATEMENTS

Student account statements for the Spring 2012 semester were mailed December 12, 2011. Spring 2012 semester payments are due by January 6, 2012. Accounts can also be accessed online using Banner Self-Service. Self-Service will show details for financial aid and other components of the statement as well as any activity that may have taken place subsequent to statement printing.

STUDENTS CAN VIEW AND PAY BILLS ELECTRONICALLY

The Controller’s Office at Lafayette College is pleased to announce three exciting new conveniences that will be effective December 2011.

Student account bills will be distributed electronically.
Multiple online payment vehicles will be available.
Refunds will be provided electronically.

NEW REPROGRAPHIC DEVICES ARRIVING

In the coming 2-3 weeks, the College will be updating, replacing and adding new reprographic equipment on campus. Only the equipment that is presently under the contract with Xerox through the Reprographic & Bulk Mail Services department will be affected. We will work to minimize the interruption to the daily routine of printing, copying, scanning and faxing. ITS’ Users Services and Network teams are setting up users’ computers to be able to utilize the new devices. All of the new devices will be more energy-efficient, multi-functional, and networked which will allow for copying, printing and scanning and in some cases faxing. LCAT SHUTTLE

Ride the LCAT Shuttle – a free transportation service for students from main campus to the Metzgar athletic/inter-mural fields, local shopping areas, the movie theater, restaurants and more. Also, this year the service to the Lehigh Valley International Airport has been expanded – it will be going on more days at pre-scheduled times throughout the day. STARBUCKS GRAND OPENING

The Skillman Cafe is now proudly serving Starbucks’ coffee, espresso creations, non-espresso alternatives and Frappaccinos! The Cafe will open Monday morning (8/29) at 8:30 am. The official ribbon cutting will occur on Thursday. Stop by and enjoy.

BUDGET TRAINING VIDEO

Employees who have responsibility for reviewing departmental budget performance and/or submitting budget data can gain access to that financial information online through the Self-Service Banner Finance. Now, in addition to a written manual and quarterly live classes, a short video tutorial is available online on the Finance and Administration Division’s website (under Banner Access and Training). The 20-minute video can be viewed at your leisure for a basic introduction to budget monitoring using the Banner Self-Service system.

REIMBURSEMENT RATE CHANGE

For faculty and staff traveling on or after July 1, 2011, the reimbursement rate for business mileage on a personal car will increase to $0.555/mile. The Controller’s Office will make any adjustments necessary to Travel Reimbursement Forms when they are submitted to ensure the appropriate rate is applied.
